Running RMS (Windows Rights Management Services) with Linux
By Jesse | August 16, 2008
According to Microsoft, Windows Rights Management Services has to run within an Active Directory Environment. This is due to the fact that rights enabled-applications such as those in the MS office suite look to the Service Connection Point (SCP) stored in AD. In this article, I explore how far you can take RMS in a linux environment. Topics include:
- Do you have to have a windows AD / domain to run RMS? Can you instead have a linux server running something like SAMBA and then have RMS use that for Authentication?
- Do you have to have MS SQL to run RMS or can you put the RMS databases in another database environment?
- Can you get rid of Windows altogether and run RMS on Linux system emulating windows using Wine?
